When you say "nothing came out at all", do you mean no trash came out in the gas, or no gas came out at all? If no gas came out, you may be vapor locking. This has happened on a few bikes. It's caused by your gas cap not venting properly. All I did on my Intruder and my wife's Savage was to remove the cap and squirt some WD40 into the vent holes on the underside and let it sit upside down for a few hours. That seemed to fix it.
